President's Address 2021

Presidents  Address

Wow, what a year!  Remember last year at this time, instead of getting ready for the coming golf season, we were all wondering what lay ahead for the year?  We were learning new terms and phrases “Pandemic”, “Herd immunity”, and “Out of an abundance of caution”.   I remember selfishly thinking, will we even get to play golf?  Well the game of golf became a refuge. A way to still get together, to play, to compete.  A game made for social distancing, outdoors so we didn’t have to wear a mask all the time.  So many new golfers, both young and old joined our ranks.  Our public golf courses truly filled a civic need, introducing many new players to the great treasure Lincoln has in its public golf courses.  As all you members know, there is true joy and beauty in a well struck golf shot.  Great satisfaction in correctly reading a breaking putt.  A good tired, after an enjoyable round of golf.

So we begin this year, looking forward to a full schedule of events, getting back to a new normal.  Once again, we will try to bring you a variety of tournaments experiences.  Our kickoff event will be a new favorite, the 2-man Modified Chapman.  The second event is the Member-Guest Stableford. Next, we are bringing back the 3-man A B C event, a great way to meet and play with other members.  We then hit the heart of our season, with the Stroke Play/Club Championship followed by the second year of the Duteau 2-man Best Ball.  We head for home with the LMGA 4-person Scramble.  Our traditional Orange Ball ends the competition season.  Members who accumulate 6 days of tournament play qualify for the Rewards event at years end.  Unfortunately, with last year’s unpredictable nature, we did not conduct our Season long winning Money Champion or the most Improved Handicap awards.  We will be awarding those winners this year.  Play well, play often to be in the running this year.

I want to introduce two new members of the LMGA Board, Cory Hoagstrom and Paul Jensen are two terrific gentlemen and golfers who have stepped up to serve the club and the game of golf.  Look for them to contribute and guide our club into the future.  As always I want to thank the current Board Members who contribute their time and talent to our club, I hope you will take the opportunity this season to do the same.  Over the last several seasons our membership has remained fairly static, however with the increase of new and young golfers I hope to see new growth and opportunity.  Please renew your membership today and continue to participate in our events.  Most importantly give us your feedback and ideas.  Golf is more than a good walk spoiled, at it’s best it serves to bring us together during a troubled time, at it’s worse it is frustrating and maddingly difficult.  Welcome to all who enjoy the game of golf, lets get out and play.
